Nightlife in Torquay

As the sun sets across the English Riviera, there are plenty of activities to choose from. You can enjoy a show at one of the acclaimed theatres in Torbay which feature musicals, opera, comedy and drama performances throughout the year, as well as playing host to many visiting national shows. If you'd like to catch the latest Blockbuster movie, both Torquay and Paignton are home to multi-screen cinemas.

If you'd prefer to party the night away you'll be spoilt for choice in Torquay! With a wide range of pubs, bars and nightclubs to suit all tastes, you'll have plenty to choose from. Many of the venues have their own theme and cover all types of music and are open until 3am.

The cosmopolitan atmosphere on Torquay's harbour side is the hub of nightlife activity where you'll find continental pavement cafes, wine & cocktail bars, traditional bars and nightclubs.

Relax and enjoy the atmosphere

The coastal illuminations along Torquay seafront are famous and can be seen across the whole bay. Many of the coastal parks, including Torre Abbey Gardens and Goodrington Promenade are transformed into a wonderful display of colour in the evenings and make for a wonderful and relaxing evening stroll before or after dinner.

There are many seafront bars where you can dine alfresco or relax in the evening sun with your favourite drink, people watch and feel yourself de-stress!

Throughout the year, Torquay plays host to several spectacular firework displays which draw in visitors from far and wide. During the main display, the red arrows put on a fantastic display to complement the evenings events.

On some evenings throughout the year you can enjoy a local carnival procession or street entertainment to amuse the family.

Historical Venues

If you're more interested in pubs with history, start with a Pink Gin in Black Friars. The Distillery (Barbican) was invented in the earliest days of the Royal Navy to nourish sailors. You can then visit the city's oldest pubs, The King's Head at Bretonside and the Minerva on Looe Street.

Nightclubs

Destiny (Barbican Leisure Park), Millenium (a huge venue with 6 themed bars), Dance Academy (which has hosted the famous DJ Judge Jules) and Treasury are all popular nightspots.

Nightlife in Dartmouth

Fusion 2 nightclub
Fusion 2 nightclub is one of the biggest nightclubs in South Devon, located in Kingsbridge, the club was opened in 1994 and has provided fantastic nights out since then. This 500 capacity nightclub has been a popular nightspot for locals and tourists alike, the club has a late night bar and in recent times has established itself as one of the best clubs in South Devon.

You can dance and drink till 3am, their courteous staff are always ready to help to ensure a safe night filled with fun. You can also go online at the free Internet cyber-bar, Fusion2 has an excellent dance floor, allowing you dance the night away in style, there's a kitchen at the nightclub that serves delicious food throughout the night.

Anzac Street Bistro
The town of Dartmouth is located just on the mouth of the River Dart and is a unique place with pristine beaches and a busy harbour, Dartmouth is visited by many, purely for recreation and relaxation, there are some great restaurants in Dartmouth, like the Anzac Street Bistro that serves tasty cuisine. The Anzac Street Bistro is a nice restaurant that has a relaxed ambience blended with style, comfort and a great interior, their menu is quite extensive, serving a wide variety of meals, they also a good selection of wines to choose from.

The restaurant's specialty is it's seafood, the good thing about this restaurant is that they specialize in cooking local fresh food that's brought in from Brixham harbour, which is just 10 miles away, the restaurant also boasts about its own freshly grown fruits and vegetables.

Flavel Theatre
The Flavel at Dartmouth is a multi-purpose venue for art and entertainment, located at the heart of Dartmouth, this place houses a cinema, theatres and live music shows. The Flave'ls auditorium has a huge seating capacity and has the finest acoustics where various theatre shows are performed by artists of the highest calibre, food is also available inside the auditorium. Visitors to the Flavel travel great distances to watch the theatre's shows, most end up staying at nearby hotels, some hotels have ties with the Flavel.

The Cherub Inn
If you wish to experience medieval times then the Cherub Inn is the place to be, the restaurant is one of the oldest buildings in Dartmouth, with remnants of old ship's timber. The Cherub is said to have existed since 1380, the Cherub was a private members club in the 60's and it was only in the 70s that it became the Inn and Restaurant.

The Cherub Inn is located in the heart of Dartmouth and is open seven days a week and offers an extensive menu and an excellent selection of ales, the Cherub Inn serves breakfast, lunch, light snacks and dinner too. You can enjoy bar snacks as well a la carte meals in the two restaurants that has a seating capacity of 32 and is a delightful place to eat.

The Kings Arm
The Kings Arm is situated on Dartmouth Road, offers some of the best Seafood and finest wines, at the King's Arm you can enjoy sitting out on the patio or in the garden where you can get excellent views of the bay.

The food at the King's Arm has always been enjoyed, revered and recognized by everyone, the regular menu of the restaurant changes with the seasons. The Kings Arm is a great pub too, the restaurant also hosts special evenings and festivals, making your visit more memorable.

Nightlife in Brixham

Take a stroll around the coastline or take the view from Berry head to help digest the repast. South Devon's heritage and location have ensured that South Devon's more traditional reputation is still intact, so if any of the youngsters in the pack want to dance the night away, then book a taxi to Paignton or Torquay where there is more than enough for all tastes.

Families, Couples & Lovers

Brixham is ideally situated to dine in Dartmouth or maybe Churston Court, with only a short drive needed. Dartmouth with the Ferry trip across the Dart also makes for a good evening or lunchtime trip. There is no cinema in South Devon, but the Apollo in Paignton is only 5 miles away and has all the latest releases in a multi-screen complex. Follow the signposts for the seafront and the Apollo is in the middle of Paignton green!

"After dark" in South Devon also sees the Conger Fishermen bring out the big rods and creep away to their well kept secret fishing spots. Some of these are in the quarry areas, some we know not where, but if you are a fisherman, we can guarantee that in these waters lie some of the biggest congers in the United Kingdom.

Nightlife in Paington

There is so much to do in Paignton at night we cannot hope to do it justice here, but the change in licensing laws will mean more time to dance the night away in one of the bays popular bars and nightclubs.

All close to the centre of Paignton, and a short taxi ride from most accommodation providers, Paignton has it all for a great night out.

Families, Couples & Lovers

If you are looking for a more varied and slower nighttime experience, with food and entertainment then look no further. There are numerous excellent restaurants close by and many public houses that have live entertainment.

The children will enjoy the well organized firework displays which are always supported by rich food pickings and visits from traveling fairs.

There are a growing number of large public houses that accommodate and license for the little people which may be found in town, some by the waters edge and some on the harbour side. Relax in the evening sun, people watch or just de-stress yourself knowing that you have provided for everyone's interests and demands!
